Is it allowed to take Chlormadinone Acetate during lactation? |
|
Synthetic progestin-related drug similar to the progesterone used for treatment of uterine bleeding, dysmenorrhea, infertility and occasionally for prostate problems. It has been used as a birth control medication, as single component or in combination with estrogen (e.g. mestranol + chlormadinone). No changes in prolactin were observed on plasma levels or milk production in women treated with chlormadinone. During lactation progestin-only drugs are preferred or in combination with estrogen for birth control, but whatever, the ones with the lower doses of estrogen should be used. For the first 6 weeks postpartum, non-hormonal methods are of choise. |
