Is it allowed to take Gramicidin during lactation? |
|
Polypeptide with antibacterial properties which is isolated along with tyrothricin through fermentation of Bacillus brevis.Topically used on mucocutaneous and eye infections often in association with other antibacterial drugs such as Neomycin, Polymyxin B and others like Corticosteroids or Benzocaine. It is highly toxic when systemically used. It has been withdrawn from the market in some countries due to lack of therapeutic effectiveness. Given its negligible systemic absorption and high molecular weight, excretion into breastmilk is highly unlikely. Do not apply on the breast to prevent ingestion by the infant. |
