Is it allowed to take Grapevine during lactation? |
|
The skin of the fruit, seeds and leaves of grapes are used.It is a dietary source used in food (fruits and leaves). In phytotherapy, extracts are used to which, due to their antioxidant properties, protective effects are attributed against venous insufficiency, hair loss, atherosclerosis and many other ailments, without clear scientific evidence (EMA 2010).The dried fruit (raisins) has laxative properties. The leaves contain flavonoids, anthocyanosides and polyphenolic derivatives, and the seeds contain unsaturated fatty acids, tocopherols, polyphenols and resveratrol. Grape seed oil is included in topical preparations. Since the last update we have not found published data about its excretion in breast milk. It is a plant which is widely used as food in many cultures. Given its lack of toxicity in correct doses, moderate consumption would be compatible with breastfeeding. Precautions when taking plant preparations: 1. Ensure that they are from a reliable source: poisoning has occurred due to confusing one plant with another with toxic properties, as well as poisoning from heavy metals extracted from the ground and food poisoning due to contamination with bacteria or fungi. 2. Do not take in large amounts; follow recommendations from professional experts in phytotherapy. "Natural" products are not always good in any quantity: plants contain active substances from which much of our traditional pharmacopoeia has been obtained and can result in poisoning or act as endocrine disruptors if taken in excessive amounts or time periods. |
