Is it allowed to take Docusate Sodium during lactation?
Is it safe for a nursing mother and a child?

Anionic surfactant that acts as an emollient laxative. It is also used to treat the retention of ear cerumen. It is minimally absorbed in the duodenum-jejunum and excreted in the bile. No problems have been observed in infants whose mothers were treated, except one case of diarrhea that was possibly due to other laxative medication took by the mother (Greenhalf 1973). The Institute at the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) consideres it to be compatible while breastfeeding (Mahadevan 2006).

I took one tablet at bedtime and within 20 minutes had a roaring sound in my head and pressure that interfered with sleep left me feeling dizzy and tired all day and lasted for 2 days. The effects in the bathroom were unsatisfactory.

I have had frequent times of irregularity due to Cerebral Palsy over my life and after using laxatives and fiber, find this drug is usable on a daily basis because my stool needs to be very soft to go. Unlike laxatives, this med can be used daily as long as it is done RIGHT. Along with 4 pints of liquid and high fiber diet, I find relief Since Cerebral Palsy has some physiological side effects: lack of minute bowel and bladder muscularity, as normal people have without this condition.
