Is it allowed to take Iodine during lactation?
Is it safe for a nursing mother and a child?

Medication containing large amount of Iodine (milligrams) that is used as anti-thyroid drug (1 milligram = 1,000 micrograms). Iodine may reach milk concentrations 20 times higher than serum level: there is a theoretical risk of hypothyroidism. Compatible with breastfeeding in doses used as nutritional supplements and standard treatment of iodine deficient mothers. Daily allowance is 100 to 150 micrograms, but in the breastfeeding woman is 250 to 300 micrograms.
