Is it allowed to take Nitrofurazone during lactation? |
|
Topically used as a 0.2% cream or ointment for the treatment of wounds, ulcers, skin infections and burns. At latest update relevant published data on its excretion into breast milk were not found. It is not absorbed in significant amounts into the systemic circulation, even when applied on burned surfaces (AEMPS 2007). The small dose used and low plasma uptake of most topical dermatological preparations make it unlikely that significant amounts would pass into breastmilk. Do not apply on the breast to prevent the infant from taking it; if necessary, do it after a feeding and clean it up thoroughly with water before the next one. It is toxic when taken by mouth, may cause contact dermatitis and hemolysis in cases of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (AEMPS 2007). |
