Is it allowed to take Tigecycline during lactation? |
|
On latest update no relevant data related to breastfeeding were found. Pharmacokinetic data (wide distribution volume, moderately high molecular weight and high protein binding) suggest that excretion into breast milk would not be significant. Even more, low oral bioavailability makes absorption from ingested breast milk into infant’s blood be nil or scanty. However, in premature infants and neonates in early postpartum, blood levels are likely higher due to increased gut absorption. Nonetheless, a safer alternative with other known antibiotic is preferred until more information is available. |
